Not all home heating systems are created equal. Some houses need supplemental heating, and that’s where a space heater comes in. This Dr. Infrared DR968 heater is a great candidate to give your home or workplace that extra boost of warmth.
Dr. Infrared’s advertising can be a little misleading, though. We’re going to try to push through the chaff and examine the heater.
Dr. Infrared Heater DR968 Review: Notable Features

Space heaters come in many shapes and sizes. A simple box like the DR968 may not be the most aesthetically thrilling, but it has its advantages. Plus, it gives the engineers an ample area to add in extra features. Let’s see what those are.
As the company’s name implies, Dr. Infrared makes use of infrared energy. That’s not as revolutionary as they claim, though, since infrared is essentially just the scientific name for heat energy. All heating elements produce infrared energy.
What Dr. Infrared does right is to integrate a large, quality heating element with a high-throughput, low-speed blower. This helps distribute a large amount of heat into the room without streaming it all toward one point. It’s a better option than some space heaters with narrower heating elements, and far more effective than traditional convection heaters.
The fan itself, while not silent, is much quieter than some. That can be a big plus for some users.
The DR968 forgoes fancy controls and “smart” features in favor of simplicity. The front-mounted buttons are intuitive and are duplicated on the included remote. Note, though, that you must hit the power button on the heater itself before you can use the remote.
The available heating modes are high, low, and auto. If auto is selected, the unit will manage itself in an attempt to maintain the selected temperature— between 50° and 86° Fahrenheit. The low setting uses 1000 watts, and high uses the full 1500 watts.
Additionally, the heater features a programmable timer. You can run your DR968 in timer mode for up to 12 hours at a stretch. All the while you’ll be secure in the knowledge that it won’t drive up your electric bill after that.
It is absolutely critical for a space heater to have certain safety features in order to prevent fires. The DR968 meets the specifications outlined by Underwriters Laboratories of the US and Canada to keep your home safe.
The first of the DR968’s safety features is simply the casing, which remains safe to touch even in high mode. No heating element is exposed to the touch. Critically, it also features a tipping sensor that will shut it off if the unit is knocked over. That’s great peace of mind for parents and pet owners.
